پروژه spring در دانشگاه هریت-وات که شامل هشت تیم اروپایی و یک تیم آسیایی است اولین پروژه خود در زمینه رباتیک را معرفی کردند. تلاش ها برای ساخت یک ربات تعاملی با قابلیت مکالمه آزاد در سیستم بهداشتی با نام icub در حال انجام است.
به گفته پروفسور لمون پژوهشگران بر این باورند که وجود ربات ها به عنوان عضوی از سیستم مراقبتی در بخش درمان می توانند به کاهش استرس و تنهایی و افزایش خلق و خو و جامعه پذیری افراد کمک کنند. می توان از این ربات ها در بخش های غیر پزشکی بیمارستان ها استفاده نمود زیرا ربات های اجتماعی می توانند اطلاعات پیچیده پزشکی را در قالب مفاهیم ساده به بیماران توضیح دهند. همچنین از آنها می توان به طور همزمان برای چند کاربر استفاده نمود.
این ربات ها علاوه بر اینکه بر روی سطح سلامت روان بیماران اثرگزار هستند می توانند به بهبود رابطه بیمار و متخصصین کمک کنند. نکته جالب توجه در رابطه با این ربات ها قابلیت استفاده بدون لمس کردن آنهاست چرا که این ویژگی امکان انتقال عفونت از طریق تماس با ربات ها را کاهش می دهد. نمونه دیگر، ربات های یک شرکت رباتیک بلژیکی است که به ساخت ربات هایی می پردازد که از طریق آنها بتوان برای سالمندانی که در خانه تنها هستند ارتباطات اجتماعی فراهم آورد.
